Thank you for using SaltPaper! We build it to help you save, organize, and cook from your favorite recipes. Because we don't know every one of our customers personally, we have to put in place some Terms of Service to help keep the ship afloat.

When we say "Company", "we", "our", or "us" in this document, we are referring to SaltPaper. When we say "Services", we mean the SaltPaper iOS app and the saltpaper.app website. When we say "you" or "your", we are referring to you — the person who has signed up for an account with SaltPaper.

We may update these Terms of Service ("Terms") in the future. Whenever we make a significant change to our policies, we will refresh the date at the top of this page and take any other appropriate steps to notify account holders.

When you use our Services, now or in the future, you are agreeing to the latest Terms. There may be times where we do not exercise or enforce a right or provision of the Terms; however, that does not mean we are waiving that right or provision. These Terms do contain a limitation of our liability.

If you violate any of the Terms, we may terminate your account.

Account terms

  1. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. SaltPaper uses Sign in with Apple for authentication. The Company cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage from your failure to comply with this security obligation.
  2. You may not use the Services for any unlawful purpose or to abuse, harass, or harm others.
  3. You are responsible for all content posted to and activity that occurs under your account, including content in shared cookbooks.
  4. You must be a human. Accounts registered by "bots" or other automated methods are not permitted.
  5. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction).
  6. You may not upload photos or content that are illegal, infringing, obscene, or harmful. We reserve the right to remove such content without notice.

Subscriptions and payment

  1. SaltPaper offers a free tier with 5 AI-powered recipe saves and unlimited manual entry. We do not ask for your credit card for the free tier, and — just like for customers who pay for our Services — we do not sell your data.
  2. SaltPaper Pro is available as a monthly ($8.99/month) or annual ($59.99/year) auto-renewable subscription, billed through Apple's App Store. Auto-renewal terms, including the renewal price and billing period, are also presented to you at the point of purchase within the app.
  3. All subscription billing, renewals, and cancellations are handled by Apple. To cancel your subscription, go to Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your iPhone. An email or support request to us is not automatically considered cancellation.
  4. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
  5. Refunds are handled by Apple according to their refund policy.

AI-powered features

  1. SaltPaper uses AI (Anthropic's Claude API) to parse recipes from text, images, and URLs. When you use this feature, the content you provide is sent to Anthropic for processing.
  2. AI recipe parsing is provided on a best-effort basis. While we strive for accuracy, the AI may occasionally produce errors in ingredient quantities, cooking times, or other details.
  3. You may not abuse the AI parsing feature, for example by using automated tools to bulk-process non-recipe content.

IMPORTANT — HEALTH AND SAFETY NOTICE: AI-parsed recipes may contain errors in allergen information, ingredient quantities, and cooking temperatures. You are solely responsible for verifying all recipe details before cooking, especially allergen information. SaltPaper is not liable for adverse health effects, allergic reactions, or any harm resulting from reliance on AI-parsed content. If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, always verify ingredients against the original recipe source.

Shared cookbooks and family features

  1. SaltPaper allows you to share cookbooks with other users in your household or groups. By sharing content, you grant other members of that cookbook permission to view and use the shared recipes.
  2. You are responsible for content you share in shared cookbooks. Do not share content you do not have the right to share.
  3. If you leave a shared cookbook, your contributed recipes remain accessible to other members unless you delete them before leaving.

Cancellation and termination

  1. You are solely responsible for properly canceling your subscription. You can manage your subscription through your iPhone's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
  2. If you cancel your subscription, you will retain access to SaltPaper Pro features until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account will revert to the free tier. Your recipes and data remain accessible — you just won't be able to use AI parsing beyond the free tier limit.
  3. You can delete your account and all associated data directly within the app under Profile > Settings, or by contacting us at support@saltpaper.app. All content will be permanently deleted within 60 days.
  4. We have the right to suspend or terminate your account and refuse any and all current or future use of our Services for any reason at any time. Termination will result in the deletion of your account and all content within it. We reserve the right to refuse the use of the Services to anyone for any reason at any time.

Modifications to the service and prices

  1. We reserve the right at any time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, any part of our Services with or without notice.
  2. Sometimes we change the pricing structure for our products. When we do that, we tend to exempt existing customers from those changes. However, we may choose to change the prices for existing customers. If we do so, we will give at least 30 days notice and will notify you via the app or email address on record.

Uptime, security, and privacy

  1. Your use of the Services is at your sole risk. We provide these Services on an "as is" and "as available" basis.
  2. We take many measures to protect and secure your data through backups, redundancies, and encryption. We enforce encryption for data transmission from the public Internet.
  3. When you use our Services, you entrust us with your data. We take that trust to heart. You agree that SaltPaper may process your data as described in our Privacy Policy and for no other purpose.
  4. We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations due to events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, internet or infrastructure failures, or third-party service outages (including Apple, Convex, or Anthropic).

Copyright and content ownership

  1. You retain ownership of all content you create in SaltPaper, including recipes, photos, cookbooks, and notes. You give us a limited license to use that content in order to provide the Services to you, but we claim no ownership rights over those materials.
  2. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to save and use any recipes or images you add to the app.
  3. The Company owns all right, title, and interest in and to the Services, including all intellectual property rights therein, and you obtain no ownership rights in the Services as a result of your use.
  4. We do not pre-screen content, but we reserve the right (but not the obligation) in our sole discretion to refuse or remove any content that is available via the Service.
  5. If you believe content in SaltPaper infringes your copyright, please contact us at support@saltpaper.app with a description of the copyrighted work and the infringing content. We will respond to valid takedown requests in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

Features and bugs

We design our Services with care, based on our own experience and the experiences of customers who share their time and feedback. However, there is no such thing as a service that pleases everybody. We make no guarantees that our Services will meet your specific requirements or expectations.

We also test all of our features extensively before shipping them. As with any software, our Services inevitably have some bugs. We track the bugs reported to us and work through priority ones, especially any related to security or privacy. Not all reported bugs will get fixed and we don't guarantee completely error-free Services.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Company from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Services, your content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another party.

Liability

You expressly understand and agree that the Company shall not be liable, in law or in equity, to you or to any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, lost profits, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, including, but not limited to, damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data or other intangible losses (even if the Company has been advised of the possibility of such damages), resulting from: (i) the use or the inability to use the Services; (ii) the cost of procurement of substitute goods and services resulting from any goods, data, information or services purchased or obtained or messages received or transactions entered into through or from the Services; (iii) unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data; (iv) statements or conduct of any third party on the service; (v) errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in AI-parsed recipe content, including but not limited to allergen information, ingredient quantities, and cooking instructions; (vi) or any other matter relating to these Terms or the Services, whether as a breach of contract, tort (including negligence whether active or passive), or any other theory of liability.

In other words: choosing to use our Services does mean you are making a bet on us. If the bet does not work out, that's on you, not us. We do our darnedest to be as safe a bet as possible through careful management of the business; investments in security, infrastructure, and talent; and in general giving a damn.

Dispute resolution

We'd prefer to resolve any disputes informally. If you have a concern, please email us at support@saltpaper.app first and we'll do our best to resolve it. If we can't resolve a dispute informally, you and SaltPaper agree to resolve it through binding arbitration in the State of California, except that either party may bring claims in small claims court if eligible. You agree to waive any right to a jury trial or to participate in a class action.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions.

General provisions

  • Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and SaltPaper regarding the Services and supersede any prior agreements.

Questions

If you have a question about any of these Terms, please contact us at support@saltpaper.app.
